Coils

Metal coils have an extremely high efficient rate of heat transfer. The entire surface of the coil serves to transfer heat into the solution. The heat loss threw the wall of the coil can be essentially ignored; the temperature is for all practical purposes the same on both side of the tubing.

Metal coils have the advantage of being repairable. We have seen coils that have been repaired dozens of times at a fraction of the cost of a new coil, unlike most plate coils or Teflon “spaghetti” tube style coils which are hard if not impossible to repair.

Do not assume that the coil you have been using is always the best choice – we have found many cases through the years where a coil that was used as a “temporary” fix and was never replaced. It may not have been the proper size coil for your application; it could be oversized or undersized.  Why not let us verify the sizing of your coil if there are any questions. Simply fill out our questionnaire and fax / email back to us and we will take it from there.

We can duplicate your existing coil or we can help engineer a new coil to meet your heating / cooling requirement. Call or e-mail us now, we are ready to assist you!

Features

  1. Metals available for coil construction include:
    • Titanium, CP Grade 2
    • Zirconium
    • Stainless Steel 316/L
    • Columbium
    • Tantalum
    • Steel
    • Aluminum
    • Hastelloy C276©
Hastelloy C© is a trademark of the Haynes International, Inc.
Please verify with your chemical supplier the proper material selection to ensure chemical compatibility.
  2. Fabricated using TIG welding with full Argon gas shielding and the matching filler rod to the tube material.
  3. All Coils are pressure tested to 110 PSI to ensure no leaks when they leave our shop.
  4. Coils can be designed for vertical or horizontal mounting on the side wall of a tank or along the bottom.
  5. Custom riser heights can place the coil at the proper depth in the tank to assist heating / cooling and to help promote natural convection currents.
  6. Coils can be design with removable riser extensions for easier installation and shipping.
  7. Air Covers (protective shields) on the risers can help minimize the corrosive effects of acids when they flash from liquid to vapor.
  8. Inlet and outlet nipple sizes for a coil are matched to the flow rate required (based on the heat load) to help to keep the pressure drop across the coil as low as possible.
  9. Coils can be provided with flanges instead of pipe nipples if desired.
  10. Support braces on longer coils can be added for increased strength.
  11. Cross braces on rises tubes can be added for increased strength and ease in handling.
  12. Hangers can be provided to assist in mounting coils in the tank.
  13. Coils can be weighted to offset buoyancy.
  14. Feet (legs) can be added to coils to hold them off the bottom of a tank.
  15. An air sparger line can be built into a coil so that air can be bubbled up over the surface of the coil helping to keep the face of the coil clean and increase the heat transfer rate.
  16. Most coils can be coated with ETFE for added corrosion protection if needed.
  17. Bumpers (stand-offs) can be added to hold the coil off the tank wall to help improve heat transfer.
